The Dental Mission Project

The Dental Mission Project (DMP) was formed to support developing countries in desperate need of oral health care, prevention and education. The DMP has generously committed to supplying portable dental equipment and supplies for any dental professional wanting to organize a team and support a Dental Mission trip in world communities in need of oral health care. According to the World Health Organization, 60-90% of school children worldwide have dental cavities, the most common oral disease. The Dental Mission Project is committed to assist dental groups interested in providing assistance to marginalized populations regardless of their religious or political beliefs, economic or social circumstance.

A team of dedicated individuals will be doing mission dentistry around the world. The DMP will provide this team with equipment and dental provisions however we need your help to raise the necessary funds to assist in the transportation of both the team and supplies.

The UBC Faculty of Dentistry is pleased to partner with the Dental Mission Project and accept tax receiptable donations in support of the program. This partnership also provides the opportunity to engage UBC dental students in community outreach initiatives both locally and internationally – enhancing their clinical skills as well as better understanding their own sense of social responsibility as future oral health care professionals.

With all donations collected, 5% of each gift will be allocated to the UBC Dentistry Carlos Carrillo Endowment Fund which supports an annual student award recognizing an outstanding student who demonstrates leadership, interest and passion in community oral health care outreach both locally and internationally. Dr. Carrillo was a tremendous advocate for donating his time and talent in providing oral health care worldwide. His legacy will live on through the Dental Mission Project. Should there be a surplus in donations for a specific outreach initiative, the funds will be allocated to support future outreach programs.
